In front of you is a picture showing the beginning of what would later become "Silicon Valley" in California. In this garage two students, William Hewlett and David Packard, started to develop electronic instruments in the year 1939. Their first product was the audio oscillator HP 200A, which you can see a variant of here on the shelf. The audio oscillator had good performance and used a standard incandescent bulb to get a clean output signal. It was sold to Disney for the film "Fantasia" and had many successors, including other brands. On this shelf are several other successful HP products from 1950 - 1970. HP became known for delivering high quality at competitive prices. The company currently has a value of approximately 100 billion Euro.
